SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Each year the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association awards a number of scholarships in recognition of academic achievement and community/school service combined with hockey participation. To be eligible, a player must be:

1) A registered player with any team in the PCAHA Midget or Juvenile divisions, and
2) In Grade 11 or 12 or graduated from high school.

For the 2004-2005 season the PCAHA will be awarding 17 scholarship awards with a total value of $14,250.00, as follows:

1) Arthur Griffiths Scholarship Award, presented by the Vancouver Canucks (1 award @ $3,000.00)
2) Scotiabank Scholarship (1 award @ $2,000.00)
3) PCAHA Scholarships (2 awards @ $1,000.00 each)
4) Vancouver Canucks Scholarships (3 awards @ $750.00 each)
5) Vancouver Canucks Community Service Bursary (1 award @ $500.00)
6) Jim Hoeght Memorial Referee Scholarship (1 award @ $500.00)
7) James Killeen Memorial Scholarship (1 award @ $500.00)
8) PCAHA Scholarship Awards (7 awards @ $500.00 each)

These awards should not be confused with the Special Bursaries awarded in conjunction with the annual Scholarship Tournaments, for which only participants in those events are eligible.

When choosing the successful applicants, the selection committee will be placing special emphasis upon (i) academic achievement and (ii) good school and community participation. Recipients must utilize scholarship funds towards tuition at a post-secondary educational institution (university, community college, technical institute, vocational college, etc.).

Please find attached a PCAHA Scholarship Program Application Form. To apply for PCAHA scholarships, please complete this form and submit it together with: (i) a personal letter containing an outline of your academic achievements, community/school participation and service, hockey involvement, and other qualifications; (ii) letters of reference from your Minor Hockey Association and school Principal or Counsellor; (iii) your most recent report card, and (iv) your transcript of high school grades. Forward the completed application to the PCAHA Office.

Please note that the closing date for submission of applications is Friday, April 1, 2005. Applications must be received at the PCAHA Office on or before that date to be eligible for consideration. Late applications will not be considered.
