Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association
24th ANNUAL SCOTIABANK JUVENILE SCHOLARSHIP TOURNAMENT
PHILOSOPHY AND FORMAT

A. General Philosophy:

The Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association annually hosts the Scotiabank Juvenile Scholarship Tournament to promote participation in Minor Hockey at the Juvenile level (age 18-20) by showcasing those Juvenile Division players exhibiting the qualities of good sportsmanship, leadership, character, and playing ability. In addition, the Tournament aims to increase participation by Juvenile players in the PCAHA Scholarship Program.

B. Coaching Selection:

Coaches and other team officials for the three Tournament teams have been selected by the Tournament Committee on the basis of their philosophy of the game, past coaching record, and personality. No coach or other team official who has incurred a 10-min. Misconduct, Game Misconduct, Gross Misconduct, or Match Penalty during the current season was considered, and all Coaches are required to hold NCCP Intermediate Level/Developmental 1 certification.

C. Player Eligibility and Selection:

Players meeting the Tournament criteria have been nominated by their club teams to participate in the Tournament. The basic player selection criteria are as follows:

(i) Players must be registered in the Juvenile Division with a PCAHA-member Association.

(ii) Player nominations from club teams shall be based upon the qualities of good sportsmanship, leadership, character, and playing ability. First preference shall be given to graduating Juvenile players (those 20 years old as of December 31, 2005). If there are insufficient eligible 20 year olds, second preference shall be given to 19 year olds. Third preference will be given to other registered Juvenile players.

(iii) Each member Association entering a Juvenile "A" team will have as close to equal representation as possible on the Tournament team representing their Conference or grouping. (Some Association teams may not be represented as a result of a lack of eligible 20 year old players on those teams). Groupings for the 2006 Tournament are given below.

(iv) Sportsmanship Requirement - Any player having incurred a Match Penalty or Gross Misconduct during the current season shall be ineligible for participation in the Tournament. In addition, players may be disqualified for excessive penalty minutes upon review of their penalty record.

D. Tournament Format:

The three Tournament teams will play a single-round-robin series, with the top two teams meeting in a championship final game for the Sinkie-Hanusiak Trophy. Please refer to the Tournament Rules and Regulations.

E. Tournament Awards:

(i) Scotiabank Juvenile Special Bursaries - A Scotiabank Juvenile Special Bursary Award in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded to the player on each Tournament team adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and sportsmanship over the course of the Tournament (one award per team). Recipients of the three Special Bursary Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony following the final game of the Tournament. These Bursaries must be applied by the recipients towards post-secondary study according to the guidelines of the PCAHA Scholarship Program.

(ii) Game M.V.P. Awards - In each game, the player on each team adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and sportsmanship will receive the Game M.V.P Award.
