FEMALE MIDGET SCHOLARSHIP TOURNAMENT
HISTORY
The PCAHA Female Midget
Scholarship Tournament was conceived by Sue Dix-Cooper, PCAHA Female Hockey
Scheduler/Statistician, during the 1999-2000 season. The event was modelled on
the existing PCAHA Scholarship Tournaments with the objectives of (i) showcasing the talents of graduating players (17 year
olds) participating in the PCAHA Female Midget division, (ii) promoting the
participation of Female Midget players in the PCAHA Scholarship Program, and
(iii) generally promoting the growth and development of Female Hockey.
A steering committee was
formed coordinated by Sue Dix-Cooper and consisting of Audrey Truth (President,
Richmond Girls IHA and Female Hockey Committee Secretary), Sarah Ryall (South Delta MHA Female Hockey Rep), Gordon Milne
(PCAHA Managing Director, Female Hockey), Barry Jones (PCAHA Special Events
Committee Chairperson), and Andrew Mustard (PCAHA Assistant Executive
Director). The inaugural Tournament was held March 10-16, 2000, with games
hosted by Meadow Ridge Female MHA, Richmond Girls IHA, South Delta MHA, and
Surrey Female HA.
The Tournament’s format has
remained unchanged since its inception. Three
teams are selected from among graduating Midget players (17 year olds as of
December 31st of the current season) registered on Midget “A” or “C” teams in
the PCAHA Female Midget division. The
teams play a single round-robin with the top two teams meeting in a
championship game. Tournament champion
teams over the years have been as follows:
2000 - PCAHA Blue Team |
2006 - PCAHA Red Team |
The 12th annual Tournament
will be held from March 14-17, 2011.
