12th ANNUAL FEMALE MIDGET SCHOLARSHIP TOURNAMENT
PHILOSOPHY AND
FORMAT
A. General
Philosophy:
The Pacific Coast Amateur
Hockey Association annually hosts the Female Midget Scholarship Tournament with
the following objectives in mind:
1) To showcase the talents
of graduating Female Midget players.
2) To promote participation by Female Midget players in the PCAHA Scholarship
Program.
3) To promote the growth and development of Female Hockey.
This event recognizes
players who exhibit the qualities of good sportsmanship, leadership, character,
and playing ability.
B. Team Official
Selection:
Coaches and other team
officials for the Tournament teams have been selected by the Tournament
Steering Committee on the basis of their philosophy of the game, past coaching
record, and personality. No coach or
other team official who has incurred a Game Misconduct, Gross Misconduct, or
Match Penalty during the current season was considered, and all coaches and
assistants are required to hold Coach Stream/Coach Level certification or
higher (Developmental 1/Intermediate Level preferred).
C. Player Eligibility
and Selection:
Players meeting the Tournament
criteria have been nominated by their club teams to participate in the
Tournament. The basic player selection
criteria are as follows:
(i)
Players must be graduating Midget players (17 years old as of December 31st of
the current season).
(ii) Players must be registered on a Female Midget “A” or “C” team with a
PCAHA-member Minor Hockey Association.
(iii) Sportsmanship Requirement - Any player having incurred a Match Penalty or
Gross Misconduct during the current season shall be ineligible for participation
in the Tournament. In addition, players
may be disqualified for excessive penalty minutes upon review of their penalty
record.
D. Tournament Format:
The three Tournament teams
will play a single-round-robin series, with the top two teams meeting in a
championship final game. Please refer to
the Tournament Rules and Regulations.
E. Tournament Awards:
(i)
PCAHA Special Bursary Awards: Three (3) PCAHA Special Bursary Awards in
the amount of $500.00 will be presented to the players adjudged to have best
exemplified excellence and sportsmanship during the course of the
Tournament. One (1) Special Bursary
Award will be awarded to a Midget Flight 1 player participating in the
Tournament, one (1) Special Bursary Award will be awarded to a Midget Flight 2
player participating in the Tournament, and one (1) Special Bursary Award will
be awarded to a Midget Flight 3 player participating in the Tournament. Note:
Should the distribution of players in the Tournament not approximate a 1:1:1
ratio between Flight 1, 2, and 3 players, the Tournament Committee may
reallocate the number and values of the Special Bursary Awards.
These Special Bursary
Awards must be applied by the recipients towards post-secondary study according
to the guidelines of the PCAHA Scholarship Program.
(ii) Game M.V.P. Awards
- In each game, two players adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and
sportsmanship will receive the Game M.V.P Award.
(iii) Participant
Recognition: Participants of the competing teams will receive the
following:
l Winning Team - gold medals.
l Runner Up Team - silver medals.
l Third Place Team - bronze medals.
