1st ANNUAL FRASER VALLEY CONFERENCE
MIDGET "C" SCHOLARSHIP TOURNAMENT
PHILOSOPHY AND FORMAT

A. Introduction:

The Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association annually hosts Scholarship Tournaments in the Midget and Juvenile divisions to promote the ideals of scholastic achievement and sportsmanship combined with participation in Minor Hockey.

The inaugural Fraser Valley Conference Midget "C" Scholarship Tournament will be played March 14-17, 2011.  This event is being held by the PCAHA’s three Fraser Valley Conference "C" League - Fraser Valley East “C” League, Fraser Valley North “C” League, and Fraser Valley West “C” League.  Games in the Tournament are hosted by the PCAHA Minor Hockey Associations comprising the three leagues.

B. Player Eligibility and Selection:

Players meeting the Tournament’s participation criteria have been nominated by their respective Midget “C” teams and have been invited to attend try-out sessions, from which the coaching staffs have selected the final teams.  One team has been selected from Fraser Valley East “C” League, one from Fraser Valley North “C” League, and one from Fraser Valley West “C” League.  The basic player participation criteria are as follows:

1) Players must be 17 years old as of December 31, 2010 (born in 1993).

2) Players must be registered on a Midget "C" team with a PCAHA-member Minor Hockey Association in Fraser Valley East “C” League, Fraser Valley North “C” League, or Fraser Valley West “C” League.

3) Player nominations from club teams shall be based upon the qualities of good sportsmanship, leadership, character, and playing ability.

4) Any player having incurred a Match Penalty or Gross Misconduct during the current season shall be ineligible for participation in the Tournament.  In addition, players may be disqualified for excessive penalty minutes upon review of their penalty record.

5) Minimum Association Representation - A minimum of one player from each Association entering a Midget "C" team will be selected to the final Tournament teams, provided the Midget "C" team(s) from that Association nominated players (not including goaltenders) and the players attended the try-out session(s).

C. Team Official Selection:

Coaches and other team officials for the three Tournament teams have been selected by the Tournament Steering Committee on the basis of their philosophy of the game, past coaching record, and personality. No coach or other team official who has incurred a Game Misconduct, Gross Misconduct, or Match Penalty during the current season was considered, and all coaches are required to hold at least Coach Level/Coach Stream certification.

D. Tournament Format:

The three Tournament teams will play a single-round-robin series, with the top two teams meeting in a championship final game.  A total of 4 games will be played.  Please refer to the Tournament Rules and Regulations.

E. Tournament Awards:

(i) Special Bursaries - Three (3) Special Bursary Awards in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded. These Special Bursaries have been donated by the Minor Hockey Associations comprising the three Fraser Valley Conference "C" League.  One (1) Special Bursary per team will be awarded to the player adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and sportsmanship during the course of the Tournament.  Special Bursary Awards must be applied by the recipients towards post-secondary study according to the guidelines of the PCAHA Scholarship Program.

(ii) Game M.V.P. Awards - In each game, the player on each team adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and sportsmanship will receive the Game M.V.P Award.

(iii) Team Awards - Participants of the competing teams will receive the following:
l Winning Team - gold medals.
l Runner Up Team - silver medals.
l Third Place Team - bronze medals.
